Zestril is a medication used to treat high blood pressure (hypertension), heart failure, and to improve survival after a heart attack. It contains the active ingredient lisinopril, which is an angiotensin-converting enzyme (ACE) inhibitor. This drug works by decreasing certain chemicals that tighten the blood vessels, allowing blood to flow more smoothly and the heart to pump blood more efficiently.
Zestril is available in various strengths: 2.5 mg, 5 mg, 10 mg, 20 mg, 30 mg, and 40 mg tablets. The dosage is prescribed by your doctor and can be taken with or without food. Regular monitoring of blood pressure and electrolyte levels is necessary during treatment with this medicine.
