Cancidas (caspofungin acetate) is an echinocandin antifungal medication used in adults and pediatric patients (3 months of age and older) for various fungal infections. It is administered intravenously as a single bolus injection.

Description

The Cancidas 50 mg vial is a white to off-white powder or cake for reconstitution. The vial contains 54.6 mg of caspofungin.

The dosage and administration instructions are as follows:

  • Administer by slow intravenous (IV) infusion over approximately 1 hour.
  • Do not mix or co-infuse Cancidas with other medications.
  • Do not use diluents containing dextrose (α–D-glucose).

For adults (18 years of age and older), administer a single 70-mg loading dose on Day 1, followed by 50 mg once daily for all indications except esophageal candidiasis. For esophageal candidiasis, use 50 mg once daily with no loading dose.

For pediatric patients (3 months to 17 years of age), dosing should be based on the patient’s body surface area. Administer a single 70-mg/m² loading dose on Day 1, followed by 50 mg/m² once daily thereafter. The maximum loading dose and daily maintenance dose should not exceed 70 mg, regardless of the patient’s calculated dose.

Please note that Cancidas is contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to sugammadex or any of its components. Hypersensitivity reactions that occurred varied from isolated skin reactions to serious systemic reactions (i.e., anaphylaxis, anaphylactic shock) and have occurred in patients with no prior exposure to sugammadex.
