Description
Letrozole, sold under the brand name Femara among others, is a medication primarily used to treat breast cancer in postmenopausal women. It belongs to a class of drugs known as aromatase inhibitors, which work by suppressing the production of estrogen in the body. Estrogen can promote the growth of certain types of breast cancer tumors.
The typical dosage of Letrozole for breast cancer treatment is 2.5 mg taken orally once a day, usually for a duration determined by the treating oncologist.
In addition to its use in breast cancer treatment, Letrozole is sometimes used off-label to stimulate ovulation in women with infertility issues, particularly those with polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) who have not responded to other ovulation-inducing medications.
