Description
Maxidex is an ophthalmic medication containing dexamethasone, a corticosteroid. It is used to treat inflammation and pain in the eyes caused by conditions such as allergies, shingles, severe acne, iritis, uveitis, eye injury, radiation, and chemical burns.
Dosage/Direction: Instill 1-2 drops into the affected eye(s) every 4 hours. In severe cases, the dosage may be increased to 1-2 drops every 30-60 minutes until a satisfactory response is achieved, then gradually reduce the dosage as inflammation subsides. Follow your healthcare provider’s instructions carefully.
Side Effects: Common side effects include eye irritation, blurred vision, and increased sensitivity to light. Serious side effects may include increased intraocular pressure, cataract formation, secondary infections, and allergic reactions. If you experience any severe or persistent symptoms, contact your healthcare provider immediately.
