Description
Epanutin Injection is an anticonvulsant medication used for the treatment of generalized tonic-clonic status epilepticus and prevention and treatment of seizures occurring during neurosurgery. It contains the active ingredient phenytoin sodium. Here’s what you need to know about Epanutin Injection:
- Uses: Epanutin Injection is used for the treatment of generalized tonic-clonic status epilepticus, and prevention and treatment of seizures occurring during neurosurgery. It can be used as a short-term substitute for oral phenytoin. The medication is also used to treat a prolonged seizure (status epilepticus) and to prevent seizures during surgery.
- Administration: A loading dose of Epanutin 10 mg/kg-15 mg/kg should be injected slowly intravenously. Each injection or infusion of intravenous Epanutin should be preceded and followed by an injection of sterile saline through the same needle or catheter to avoid local venous irritation due to alkalinity of the solution.
- Precautions: The intramuscular route is not recommended for the treatment of status epilepticus because of slow absorption.
- Side Effects: Like all medicines, Epanutin can cause side effects. If you experience any side effects, it’s important to talk to your doctor or pharmacist.
Remember, it’s always important to take medication as prescribed by your healthcare provider, and not to stop taking it without discussing with them first. If you have any further questions, you should ask your doctor or pharmacist.
