Description
Dextracin is a combination medication containing dexamethasone, a corticosteroid, and neomycin, an antibiotic. It is primarily used to treat bacterial infections and reduce inflammation in the eyes and ears. Dexamethasone works by decreasing inflammation, while neomycin targets and kills bacteria.
Dosage/Direction: For eye infections, apply 1-2 drops into the affected eye(s) every 2-4 hours. For ear infections, instill 3-4 drops into the affected ear(s) 2-3 times daily. Follow your doctor’s instructions precisely and avoid touching the dropper tip to any surface to prevent contamination.
Side Effects: Common side effects include eye stinging or blurred vision when applied to the eyes, and ear discomfort or local skin irritation when applied to the ears. Less common side effects may include increased eye pressure (glaucoma), allergic reactions, or changes in vision.
