Description
Hydrochlorothiazide (HCTZ) 25 mg tablets are thiazide diuretics commonly used to treat high blood pressure (hypertension) and fluid retention (edema) associated with heart failure, liver cirrhosis, or kidney disorders. HCTZ works by increasing the excretion of sodium and water through the urine, reducing blood volume and, consequently, blood pressure.
Dosage/Direction:
The usual starting dose for adults is 1 tablet (25 mg) taken once daily, preferably in the morning to prevent nighttime urination. The dose may be adjusted by your healthcare provider based on your response. It’s important to take the medication consistently at the same time each day.
Side Effects:
Common side effects include dizziness, lightheadedness, and increased urination. Electrolyte imbalance (e.g., low potassium levels) is a potential risk, so regular monitoring is advised. Severe side effects should be reported to your doctor immediately.
