Aricept (donepezil) 5mg Tablets are used to treat symptoms of Alzheimer’s disease, such as memory loss and confusion. Donepezil is a cholinesterase inhibitor that works by increasing the levels of acetylcholine, a chemical in the brain that helps with memory and cognition. The recommended starting dosage is 5 mg once daily, taken in the evening just before bedtime. After 4 to 6 weeks, the dosage may be increased to 10 mg daily if needed. Common side effects include nausea, diarrhea, insomnia, muscle cramps, and fatigue. Serious side effects may include slow heartbeat, fainting, stomach ulcers, and seizures.
