Description
Vancomycin 500mg is an antibiotic used to treat serious bacterial infections, particularly those caused by Gram-positive bacteria. It is effective against infections such as Clostridium difficile-associated diarrhea, staphylococcal infections, and endocarditis. Vancomycin works by inhibiting the formation of bacterial cell walls, leading to the death of the bacteria. This medication is typically administered intravenously for systemic infections or orally for intestinal infections.
Dosage/Direction
For systemic infections, the usual adult dose is 500mg every 6 hours or 1g every 12 hours, administered intravenously over at least 60 minutes. For Clostridium difficile-associated diarrhea, the typical oral dose is 125mg taken 4 times a day for 10 days. Dosage may vary based on the severity of the infection and patient-specific factors. Always follow your doctor’s instructions.

Common side effects include nausea, vomiting, stomach pain, and diarrhea. Serious side effects may include kidney problems, hearing loss, and severe allergic reactions. If you experience any severe side effects, contact your doctor immediately.
