Description
Zestril is a medication used to treat high blood pressure (hypertension), heart failure, and to improve survival after a heart attack. It contains the active ingredient lisinopril, which is an angiotensin-converting enzyme (ACE) inhibitor. This drug works by decreasing certain chemicals that tighten the blood vessels, allowing blood to flow more smoothly and the heart to pump blood more efficiently.
Zestril is available in various strengths: 2.5 mg, 5 mg, 10 mg, 20 mg, 30 mg, and 40 mg tablets. The dosage is prescribed by your doctor and can be taken with or without food. Regular monitoring of blood pressure and electrolyte levels is necessary during treatment with this medicine.
Please note that Zestril should not be used if you are pregnant, as it could harm the unborn baby. If you become pregnant, stop taking this medicine and tell your doctor right away. You should also not use Zestril if you have ever had angioedema, if you are unable to urinate, or if you are allergic to any ACE inhibitor.
Common side effects of Zestril include dizziness, headache, cough, fatigue, weakness, and low blood pressure. If any of these effects persist or worsen, consult your doctor or pharmacist promptly.
Remember, it’s important to take this medication as directed by your healthcare provider. If you have any questions or concerns about Zestril, please consult with your healthcare provider.
