Description
Shanchol is an oral cholera vaccine used to prevent cholera in epidemic, endemic, or humanitarian emergency contexts. It is a killed whole-cell bivalent vaccine containing Vibrio cholerae O1 (serotypes Inaba and Ogawa, and biotypes classical and El Tor) and Vibrio cholerae O139. The vaccine is administered orally in a single-dose vial
Dosage/Directions
Dosage: One dose of 1.5 ml administered orally
Frequency: Usually a single dose is sufficient, but in certain contexts, a second dose may be given 14 days later
Directions: Shake the vial, squirt the entire contents into the mouth, and swallow. Do not administer by parenteral route.
Side Effects
Common side effects may include nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, and abdominal pain. Severe side effects are rare but can include allergic reactions. Consult your healthcare provider if you experience any severe symptoms.
